How do YOU save money??

I need your help! I am trying to figure out realistic ways to save money that will be worth the time and effort put into them.

We've come up with a few ideas and so far we are doing pretty good, I think. For one, we now have 'Mac & Cheese Mondays' since a box of mac & cheese is pretty cheap--and we are usually finishing up the week's homework due on Tuesday!

Another cost cutter requires a hats-off to Dennis and his bravery. We took one month of haircut money and bought a do-it-yourself hair cutting kit, and I started cutting his hair. Actually, setting aside the scary responsibility of making his hair look good, I like the fact that the budget no longer has to determine whether he has to be shaggy another week or not ;)

At any rate, I am looking for more ideas! How do YOU save money? What are your tips and tricks, or even things you've tried which really didn't work. Click on the 'comments' link at the end of this entry and post a comment. I can't wait to hear from you and try out some of your ideas!

Here are a few of things we have done over the years.
1. Date night: do once a week..no exceptions! This doesn't have to be expensive: walk in the park, local school events (plays/games), make a snowman, picnics, be creative.
2. Buy clothes at Goodwill type stores or off the 75% off racks...only!
3. Reuse your ziplocks baggies until they are gross or broken.
4. keep cutting his hair! I have cut all 3 of my boys hair for about 15 years and have saves LOTS of $$$.
5. Use coupons! Some places have places have double coupon days.
6. Shop at Aldi or discount grocery stores.
7. Make your own pizzas with french bread or Jiffy pizza crust mixes instead of going out or ordering in.
8. If you get the paper with the "ads" in it, throw out all the ads except for the food ads and the coupons. You will buy more if you look at them...unless you are looking specifically for something that you NEED or want to give as a gift and then look only for that item!
9. When you can, walk or ride a bike instead of driving. (Dennis you know this is a true way we saved money in Ecuador!! :) )
10. If you drink lots of pop (or Coke), stop and drink water instead. This saves TONS of money!! And take a bottle of water with you when you leave the house so when you get thristy, you don't buy something.
11. Pack you lunch!!

OK...those are a few of our ways of saving lots of money!!
Happy saving!
